Southwest Florida’s
Best Striping.
Traffic markings, which are also called line striping or simply striping, are the last item of work done after paving a road or parking lot, but are the very first thing seen by drivers. Line striping is part of an overall system responsible for communicating to drivers and pedestrians how to use the road surface or parking lot. For example, a broken yellow center-line in a road tells drivers that it is safe to pass a slower vehicle when there is no oncoming traffic, while a solid yellow line tells drivers that passing is not safe in that section of the road. In parking lots, line striping is also highly important because statistically the likelihood of a traffic accident is highest in parking lots (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). Striping in a parking lot helps keep pedestrians safe, such as crosswalks and ADA mats, as well as ensure that handicap and disabled people can find access to the property as required by Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) laws.

Types of Striping

There are two main types of striping: Painted Markings and Thermoplastic Markings. Painted Markings are applied with special traffic paint that is designed to last for several years under heavy vehicle usage. Traffic paint in the Southern United States is typically made from Acrylic Resin, which is highly durable and tolerant of high temperatures. Thermoplastic markings are made from melted plastic and is extremely durable, much more so than even the best traffic paint. Thermoplastic markings are much thicker than paint – for example, a single paint stripe would ordinarily have a thickness of 15 mils while a typical thermoplastic marking will be 85 mils, which is almost 6 times thicker. Thermoplastic striping requires advanced application equipment and expertise since it is applied at temperatures over 350°! At Solid Pave we have extensive experience with both traffic paint and thermoplastic markings. We are ready to help you improve your safety and get your project done accurately and quickly.

Traffic Signs

Just like pavement markings, traffic signs are a vital part of the system used to communicate to drivers and pedestrians how a paved road or parking lot are designed to be used. There are many types of signs such as handicap signs and stop signs as well as larger DOT signs used along major roadways and highways. In Florida, each county has unique signage requirements based on wind zone. Our staff at Solid Pave is up to date with the latest sign requirements. Traffic Communication System

The final part of the traffic communication system (excluding traffic lights) consists of various elements such as car stops aka parking blocks, reflective pavement markers (RPMs) aka cat’s eyes, delineator posts, ADA mats, rumble strips and temporary traffic devices such as traffic cones, barricades, barrels, etc. Solid Pave is ready to assist you with any of these important parts of the traffic communication system. In fact, Solid Pave staff is trained and holds advanced maintenance of traffic (MOT) credentials authorizing us to manage and direct traffic in state and federal roadways as well as install and maintain temporary traffic devices for all of our work.
